KANSAS CITY, Mo. — No team has been able to beat the Kansas City Current on their home field for nearly a calendar year, and Angel City FC couldn’t do it either.
Brazilian international Lorena saved a penalty and Bia Zaneratto scored to keep the Current unbeaten at home with a 1-0 win Friday.
The victory secured a sixth consecutive win for Kansas City, which remained atop the NWSL standings. The Current (11-2-0, 33 points) are 6-0-0 at home this season.
With the score tied 0-0, Lorena leaped to her right to parry a spot kick by Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson in the 56th minute. The ball was tipped on to the crossbar before bobbling out for a corner kick.
It was Lorena’s first penalty save and the first failed penalty kick of Thompson’s NWSL career.
