Driver crashes into Boulder police vehicle
A driver was cited Wednesday for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle after a crash involving a Boulder police sergeant.
According to a news release, no one was injured in the crash, but both vehicles sustained minor damage.
Just before 12 p.m., a Boulder police sergeant was responding to an emergency call with his vehicle’s lights and sirens. As the sergeant was driving his Ford Expedition through the intersection of 28th Street and Valmont Road, it was struck by the driver of a 2015 Volkswagen GTI, according to the release.
Officials said the sergeant was brought to a hospital as a precaution to be checked out.
The Volkswagen driver, a 35-year-old Boulder man, was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Boulder officials reminded local drivers that they are required to yield to emergency vehicles with their lights and sirens on and safely pull over to the right side of the road to allow them to pass.
Officials also asked drivers not to block intersections, to stay 500 feet behind any moving emergency vehicle with lights and sirens activated and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists when driving.
