The Division 2 District 61 boys basketball semifinals featured three Macomb Area Conference Silver teams — and the championship will be between two of them.
Wednesday’s first game in the tournament hosted by Eastpointe was between the Shamrocks and Center Line Panthers, the latter of whom went unbeaten in Silver play this season. They kept that up with a 51-41 victory over the hosts.
The first half was competitive, with neither team managing to gain significant ground as Eastpointe led 22-21 going into the break.
But it wasn’t for long — Center Line star forward Terez Holmes scored 11 points in the second quarter (more alone than Eastpointe’s four) and another eight in the third quarter, allowing his Panthers to finally get and stay ahead.
His 29 points were a game high. Their next highest scorer was Coleil Spencer with seven.
Eastpointe’s season ended despite getting scoring from nine different players. Aaron Perry and Sean Askew each had nine points in the losing effort.
In the second contest, the South Lake Cavaliers just barely escaped from Harper Woods Chandler Park, clipping them 53-52 to advance.
The two teams will now meet in Friday’s district championship round, also at Eastpointe, with a 7 p.m. tip time. Center Line has won both of their matchups this season by a combined total of five points.
