SAN DIMAS (5-1, 1-0) VS. NORTHVIEW (6-0, 1-0) AT COVINA DISTRICT FIELD, 7 P.M.: You can argue that Northview is off to its most dominant start in history. The Vikings’ 42-0 win over Diamond Ranch to open the Valle Vista League was their third blowout shutout, and they have beaten every team by 23 or more points. They’re the perfect blend of offense and defense hitting on all cylinders. RB Keanu Tauvao is averaging 167 yards rushing and has run for 11 TDs. They can pass the ball with equal effectiveness when needed. The Saints are also hitting their stride with lead running back Julian Vigil, who headlines a ground attack averaging 323 yards a game. Vigil has rushed for 441 yards and five touchdowns over his last two games. The Saints have won three straight, which includes last week’s 35-19 win over West Covina. They have a 47-7 blowout loss to Bonita on their resume, but in the Saints’ five victories no team has come close to touching them. They have a chance to give the Vikings a real scare, but nothing the Vikings have done points to an upset.

The pick: Northview

LOYOLA (2-4, 0-1) AT BISHOP AMAT (2-4, 0-1), 7 P.M.: Two old rivals meet in a Mission League desperation game to improve their playoff chances. The Cubs nearly pulled off a shocker last week, building a 35-14 lead over Serra, but they gave up 28 points in the fourth quarter and lost their league opener 42-35. They also lost close games to Cathedral (16-13) and Damien (30-29). The Cubs will be looking to take out their frustration on Amat, which has lost three straight and four of its last five. Amat’s 28-21 loss to Notre Dame last week was a major punch to the Lancers’ playoff chances, and with games against Sierra Canyon and Serra after this week, beating the Cubs becomes a back-against-the-wall situation. There are no injury excuses for Amat. Quarterback Frankie Villalbazo is having a strong season and the Lancers are playing at home. With another loss, Amat will be looking at its worst two-year period in more than two decades. All factors point to Loyola winning, but this is one where desperation gives you a real shot.

The pick: Bishop Amat

DAMIEN (4-2, 1-0) AT UPLAND (2-4, 0-1), 7 P.M.: The Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak last week with an emphatic 45-10 victory over Etiwanda to open the Baseline League. Quarterback Isaiah Arriaza completed 13 of 18 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He will be the key against a Highlanders team that has lost four straight. Upland’s 10-7 loss to Rancho Cucamonga in the league opener was a microcosm of its season. The Highlanders lost close games to Villa Park (34-33) and Apple Valley (34-31). And they’re the only team to beat La Habra this season, 26-23. The key for the Spartans is slowing Highlanders QB Lequand Jackson, who leads the team in passing and rushing. This figures to be another close one, but the Spartans have shown they’ll be up to the task.

The pick: Damien

MUIR (4-2, 3-0) AT BURROUGHS (5-1, 3-0), 7 P.M.: The Indians have had the Mustangs’ number the past two years. They defeated them 32-27 last year to win the Pacific League title, and it was the Mustangs’ only league loss. So here we go again. The Indians have won five straight and quarterback Mingus Allen has thrown seven touchdown passes over his last two games. Muir will give the Indians their first real test since a season-opening 38-19 loss to Hart. The Mustangs have won four straight, which includes strong back-to-back wins over St. Francis (28-18) and Burbank (35-13). Cole Cogshell has been a beast on defense and it has shown over their last two wins against Crescenta Valley (53-0) and Arcadia (49-3). Mustangs QB Keyon Mills is good enough to take over games, but the Mustangs can also run the ball with authority, averaging 247 yards. If the Mustangs win, it’s clear sailing to the league title.

The pick: Muir

LOS OSOS (5-1, 0-1) AT CHARTER OAK (5-1, 1-0), 7 P.M.: The Chargers are having a fantastic season with more next-level players than any team in the San Gabriel Valley. There’s linebacker Lavar Arrington Jr., who is committed to Penn State, quarterback Corin Berry to Boston College, receiver Legend Lyons to Minnesota and receiver Marquis Bradley to UC Davis. The results have followed, including last week’s 43-3 blowout of Claremont to open the Sierra League. Torry Huff had his best game for the Chargers, rushing for 102 yards and three touchdowns. If the Chargers get more efforts like that from Huff, their offense will be nearly unstoppable. The Grizzlies entered league play undefeated but they played a soft nonleague schedule and it showed in a 23-6 loss to Colony. Calpreps projects a 42-6 win for Charter Oak, and we think that’s about right.

The pick: Charter Oak

GANESHA (2-4, 1-0) AT LA PUENTE (6-0, 1-0), 7 P.M.: The Warriors have blown out every opponent, winning by an average margin of 43 points. They’re averaging 53 points a game behind junior quarterback Ezekeil Zamora, who is averaging 254 yards passing and has 18 touchdown passes. But they’ve played one of the easiest schedules of any San Gabriel Valley team. Their best win arguably came against struggling Rosemead, 42-14. Ganesha has just two wins, but has losses to much higher-ranked squads like St. Bonaventure and Woodinville, a team from Washington. Ganesha opened the Miramonte League with a 34-31 win over previously undefeated Duarte, and it looks to take down another undefeated team this week. But truth is, while the Warriors have played a soft schedule, they’re still a talented team and have a chance to show it and take the inside track toward the league title.

The pick: La Puente

NOGALES (3-3, 1-0) AT WILSON (5-1, 1-0), 7 P.M.: The Wildcats have gone on a five-game winning streak since a season-opening 22-0 loss to Los Altos, and they have been dominant in all of their wins. They haven’t been scored on in three games with blowout shutouts over Montclair (47-0), Garey (47-0) and Azusa (56-0). The running back tandem of Dominic Ezeonye and Derek Ochoa combines to average 263 yards a game. That’s not a good sign for the Nobles, who have struggled defensively up front. The Nobles beat Sierra Vista 28-12 to open league play, and they have the best quarterback in the league with senior Tyler Lewis, who is capable of taking over a game. But where will the stops come from and how often? This game likely decides the league title, but it has the potential to be another lopsided win for the Cats.

The pick: Wilson
