



Santa Cruz’s Adam Bartlett advanced to Finals Day at the Word Surf League’s Live Like Zander Junior Pro In Loving Memory Zander Venezia at Soup Bowl, Bathsheba, Barbados, on Saturday.
Bartlett (11.13) took second behind Will Deane (11.40) of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, in Heat 1 of the quarterfinals of the 1,000-point Junior Tour event. Luke Wyler (10.23) of San Clemente, took third and was eliminated, as was fourth-place finisher Carl Burger of Flagler Beach, Florida.
Wyler finished in ninth place overall, and Burger took 13th.
Bartlett, Deane, Hayden Rodgers of San Clemente, and Lucas Cassity of Baja California Sur, Mexico, compete in Heat 1 of the semifinals on Sunday.
Kai Kushner of Manhattan Beach, Wheeler Hasburgh of Invermere, Canada, Eeli Timperi of Finland, and Logan Radd of Satellite Beach, Florida, square off in the second semifinal.
Bartlett, competing in the third Junior Tour event of his young career, has secured his highest finish. He placed 17th at the SLO CAL Open at Pismo Beach in January.
Santa Cruz’s John Mel tied for fifth place at the WSL’s BTMI Barbados Surf Pro, a Qualifying Series 5,000-point event held at Soup Bowl, Bathsheba, Barbados. He earned 2,282 points for his finish.
Mel was eliminated by Sebastian Williams of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, 15.07-12.00 in Heat 3 of the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Williams faces Lucca Mesinas of Máncora, Peru, and Carlos Munoz of Costa Rica takes on Lucas Cassity of Mexico.
