Resident of Rossmoor/Walnut Creek

Olga Degiorgio Disney passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on August 7, 2024. Olga was born in the coal mining town of Superior, Wyoming on September 3rd, 1927. She was the fourth daughter of Luigi Degiorgio and Anna Paterno who were immigrants from Austria, now Northern Italy.

Olga lived in Superior until she was six. The family then moved to Hooper, Utah where they purchased an old farm and proceeded to build it up. The family lived off the land raising livestock and chickens while growing and preserving many fruits and vegetables.

Olga and her beloved sisters, Ida (Eileen), Lena and Emma (Georgie), worked on the farm harvesting sugar beets and milking cows, which were just afew of their duties.

Olga attended Weber College and graduated from University of Utah with a teaching degree and credential in 1951. After college, Olga was eager to leave Utah, so she went to San Francisco to follow in the footsteps of two of her sisters. Soon after her arrival in San Francisco, Olga moved into Saint Margaret’s Club, a residence hall for women, and began her search for a teaching position.

Olga taught school at John Muir Elementary School in the San Francisco Unified School District for seven years until she married Jim Disney in1958. Olga and Jim were married at Old St. Mary’s Church in San Francisco.

Olga and Jim raised their children, Michele, John, Katy and Jeanne, in Walnut Creek. Olga and her family involved themselves with clubs such as the Diablo A’s (a Model A club) and the Diablo Sailing Club. Through these pursuits they enjoyed many camping and road trips throughout California. Olga was an avid gardener and shared the fruits of her labor with friends and her extended family at the many parties she hosted. She is remembered for always making everyone feel welcome in her home.

Olga also managed the family’s rentals by cleaning, painting, and fixing them while interviewing new tenants.

She always made it home at the end of the day to create amazing meals using many of her homegrown fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Olga was an amazing homemaker who produced a daily three-course meal EVERY night that always included dessert, such as homemade apricot cobbler, canned fruit, cookies or pie. When her first grandchildren were born, Rosie and Simon, she focused her energy on babysitting them, which was a huge help to her daughter. Soon after, her grandsons Ben and Ray came along. At 80, her last grandchild, Harry was born and she spent much of her time taking care of him.

Olga moved to the Waterford in Rossmoor in 2017 where she lived the rest of her life. Throughout her life, Olga wanted to make every place better than she found it. She did this through homemaking and gardening, but most of all she did this by being an amazing and encouraging mother to her four children. Olga will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Olga’s funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28th ,at10:30 am at St. John Vianney Church in Walnut Creek at 1650 Ygnacio Valley Rd. Walnut Creek, Ca.
