In Loving Memory

George Vogtlin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on December 28, 2024 in Pleasanton, CA. Born in Seattle, WA, September 8, 1933, and raised in Bremerton, WA,George led alife defined by loyalty, ingenuity, and service to others.

George earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, where he also participated in Army ROTC. Following graduation, he served on active duty at Fort Belvoir, VA, then served 22 years in Army reserves, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1960 George accepted an electrical engineering position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) where his contributions in electrical engineering spanned 56 years. His name appears on numerous patents and publications, cementing his legacy as one of LLNL’s most frequently cited contributors. George was also very proud of being a member and sponsor of Alcoholics Anonymous for 35 years. He loved spending time outdoors skiing with his family and fishing. He also enjoyed many travelling adventures with his wife. He was in several clubs in Trilogy, Rio Vista where he lived. He was an avid HAM radio operator and volunteered for the Sheriff’s office in Solano County for emergency disaster drills, where he was honored as Volunteer of the Year.

George is survived by his wife Susan, his son Arthur, daughter Sandy, grandchildren Brandon, Courtney, Gage, Gwen, Lexi and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Wayne Hess. A service will take place on January 31, 2025 at noon at the Sacramento Valley National Military Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s memory may be made to these organizations, which were important to him.
