


Nique Clifford scored a career-high 36 points, and Colorado State pulled way in the waning minutes for an 83-73 victory at Boise State late Friday night.
With the win, the Rams finished the regular season with a 22-9 overall record and a 16-4 mark in the Mountain West Conference. It was their seventh win in a row and extended their program-record conference win total.
CSU also clinched the No. 2 seed for next week’s Mountain West tournament.
Trailing by nine, at 60-51, with 11 minutes remaining in the game, the Rams began their run. A hook shot by Nikola Djapa tied the game at 62-62 with 6:58 to go, and 35 seconds later a 3-pointer by Kyan Evans gave the Rams a 65-62 lead. CSU never trailed again.
CSU’s lead in the final five minutes was never fewer than four. The Rams went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final 2:08 to seal the victory and outscored the Broncos 32-13 over the final 10 minutes.
Clifford was 13-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. He was also 6-for-6 from the free-throw line to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Evans added 14 points for the Rams, and Jalen Lake had 11.
The game went back-and-forth in the first half. CSU’s largest lead was seven points while Boise State’s was five.
A layup by Evans gave the Rams a 30-29 lead with 3:13 left in the half, and CSU maintained an advantage until Boise State made a layup at the buzzer to send the game to halftime tied at 34-all.
CSU then outscored Boise State 49-39 in the second half.
