The Buckhorn Steakhouse in Winters has been a Yolo County staple for over 40 years. But what if the city of Winters is just out of your driving reach?
Luckily, for those craving some top-quality meat, the same family that brought you the Buckhorn Steakhouse and Putah Creek Café recently opened their newest endeavor, Buckhorn Meat Co., in the heart of the Capay Valley.
“We are humbled by the warm welcome we’ve received from the wonderful folks in Esparto and the surrounding communities of the Capay Valley,” said Buckhorn COO Emarie VanGalio. “The community has been incredibly supportive, and we’re eager to connect with even more people and expand our offerings in the store.”
Buckhorn Meat Co., a USDA meat processing facility located at 26797 Highway 16 in Esparto, stocked up on meat and opened its doors in April after taking over the building Manas Ranch used to occupy. Now, those who couldn’t make the trip to Winters can purchase directly from the Esparto shop to bring home and cook their own versions of Buckhorn’s famous char-roasted tri-tip, hand-butchered steaks, house-made sausage, premium ground beef, pork and more.
“It’s always a treat working the counter and meeting guests from all over,” VanGalio mentioned. “Our prime location on Highway 16 means we get to see travelers headed to Cache Creek, Clearlake, the coast and beyond. It’s truly a joy to get to know our neighbors who are becoming loyal customers. Many of our loyal steakhouse customers are now heading to our location to stock up on their favorite products.
“Here’s a little secret: our signature char-roasted tri-tip is $1 less per pound at our Meat Co. location. Plus, we have delicious marinated steak bites, house-made sausages and hand-butchered steaks for all of your grilling needs.”
As you walk into the Esparto shop, you’ll be treated to meat cases brimming with delicious selections. If meat isn’t your thing, fear not—the shop also offers a selection of beverages, snacks and unique gifts.
“Our USDA facility is where we craft our famous Buckhorn char-roasted tri-tip, now available at your local Nugget grocery store,” VanGalio said. “We also produce a variety of sausages for all Buckhorn Grill & BBQ locations across the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley. It’s a bustling, flavorful hub that we’re so proud of!”
While the place is open, VanGalio mentioned a more formal grand opening date is not set in stone quite yet but is in the works.
“We are excited to plan our grand opening for late summer,” she said. “While the exact date is still in the works, keep an eye out for some fantastic giveaways leading up to the big day. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!”
