HAROLD MILLER, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 85, with his wife, Marie, by his side.
Harold was born to the late Thomas and Martha Pittman Miller on April 10, 1939, in Barbourville, Kentucky as the youngest of 13 children. After moving to Warren Michigan upon graduation from Knox County High School, he met the love of his life, Marie Bertha Kohler, who survives him. They were married on November 11, 1961, and he died on their 63rd wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his two daughters Sheila Marie Earll (Jeff) and Tammy Lisa Todd (Jeff) and grandsons Steven Louis Sommer, Maxwell Jeffrey Earll, Jeffrey George Todd (Bethany), Michael Joseph Earll, Kevin George Todd (Chloe), and Nicholas George Todd. Harold is survived by siblings Ramona Barrett, Lula Broughton and Mary Ellen Hatfield. Preceded in death by granddaughter Kassandra Marie Todd, sisters Elizabeth Ivy, Amanda Messer, Lucy Tuggle Meadors, Effie Smith, Juanita Hutton and Nancy Grubb and brothers Henry Miller, Kenneth Lee Miller, Eugene Miller and Thomas Jefferson (aka TJ) Miller. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Harold grew up on a farm in Barbourville, Kentucky, and never lost his love of farming. After moving to Michigan for work in the late 50s, he met Marie and settled first in Warren and then in more rural Washington Twp Michigan where he had a small organic farm that included vegetables as well as pigs, goats, horses, hogs, cows, peacocks, guinea hens, chickens, and ducks. He spent the earlier years of his life working for Macomb County Community College where he climbed the ranks from carpenter to locksmith to overall supervisor of the campus operations before retiring after 30 years of service in the early 90s. The highlight of his years there was when he personally met presidents Ronald Reagan and George H W Bush.
Harold began his second career in public office once he retired from Macomb County Community College. He volunteered with his church and various charity organizations such as the Macomb Optimists Club, Romeo Lions Club, and Romeo Goodfellas. He also became active in Washington Township government when he ran for and won election to the Washington Township Board of Trustees in 2012. He served his first 4-yr term and was re-elected to his second term in 2016. He was passionate about helping others through public service and loved his years on the board.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Harold will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024, at New Life Alliance Church 3529 High St., Logansport, IN with Pastor Barry Mooney officiating.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
Burial will be held at a later date in Clinton Twp, Michigan in Cadillac Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made out to Kassandra M. Todd Scholarship Fund with the Cass County Community Foundation.
