A Boulder man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at his residence in October was arrested Monday.

William Michael Purvis, 19, is charged with two counts of sexual assault — no consent — force or threaten; attempted sexual assault — no consent; third-degree assault — knowingly or recklessly cause injury; and false imprisonment.

He is set for a preliminary hearing June 9 and was released from custody on $25,000 bond.

“Our dedicated sex crimes unit will be working closely with the victim and law enforcement to ensure that we get the right result in this case,” Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in an email. “The investigation and prosecution of sex crimes is a priority in this jurisdiction. We will support the victim throughout this process and work hard to do justice.”

On Dec. 9, a woman reported that Purvis sexually assaulted her around 2 a.m. Oct. 13 after she attended a CU Boulder football game, according to an affidavit.

The woman also told officers she didn’t initially report the sexual assault but later saw a TikTok video about someone else who had been allegedly sexually assaulted by Purvis, which motivated her to report the incident.

The woman said she was getting ready for bed in her dorm room, when Purvis started to “spam” call her and sent her a text saying he was at her dorm, according to the affidavit. She told police that when she spoke with Purvis, he told her he wanted to “chill and smoke in the parking lot with her.”

However, when the woman got in the car, she told police, Purvis locked the doors and started driving. She said Purvis then drove her to his residence while driving “very erratically and causing her to fear for her safety,” according to the affidavit.

The woman told police that despite her telling him she did not want to go to his home multiple times, “Purvis didn’t listen to her” and kept driving. Once they arrived at his place, he ushered her into the home and his room, according to the affidavit.

When the woman told him multiple times that she did not want to do anything sexual, he asked her to at least perform oral sex before she left and then sexually assaulted her, according to the affidavit.

The woman stated her cell phone had fallen behind the bed and she was only able to get it after the sex assault had occurred, according to the affidavit.

When police asked the woman if she remembers anything about Purvis’ room, she said she remembers there was a big Trump 2024 banner on the wall above his bed.

When police inspected Purvis’ room, it matched the woman’s description, according to the affidavit.

An arrest warrant was filed April 18 and the warrant was canceled Monday, according to court records.
