Paul Skenes is ready to take on the world.

The Pittsburgh Pirates ace announced Tuesday that he will join Team USA when the World Baseball Classic returns next spring.

The reigning National League Rookie of the Year, who turns 23 later this month, was the top pick in the 2023 amateur draft. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is 14-7 with a 2.16 ERA in 32 career starts. That includes a 3-4 mark with a 2.63 ERA this season.

The 2026 WBC will be held from March 5 to 17 in Tokyo, Houston, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Skenes and the rest of Team USA will begin pool play in Houston from March 6-11.

Rangers’ Seager goes on 10-day injured list

Corey Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list again Tuesday by the Texas Rangers after the two-time World Series MVP shortstop had already missed four of their previous five games because of right hamstring soreness.

Seager is on the IL for the second time this season, with the latest move retroactive to Sunday. He had played in only five games since being activated May 3 after missing 10 games with a right hamstring strain.

Sasaki latest Dodgers’ SP on injured list

Touted Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Roki Sasaki landed on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement.

It’s the latest blow to the Dodgers’ rotation. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are on the injured list, although Clayton Kershaw is expected to make his season debut Saturday.

Yankees place Cabrera on IL with ankle fracture

New York Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle fracture.

In a corresponding move, infielder DJ LeMahieu was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

Cabrera fractured his left ankle on an awkward slide in New York’s 11-5 win at Seattle on Monday.

Royals sign veteran hurler Rich Hill

The Kansas City Royals are giving Rich Hill another chance to pitch in the big leagues.

The Royals signed the 45-year-old left-hander to a minor league deal, and he will report soon to the club’s spring training facility in Surprise, Arizona. Once he gets up to speed, Hill likely will head to Triple-A Omaha.

Hill made his big league debut with the Cubs in 2005, and he has made 248 starts and appeared in 386 games over the past two decades.

Cubs’ Happ goes on IL with oblique strain

One of the Cubs’ best hitters this season is heading to the injured list.

The Chicago Cubs announced that outfielder Ian Happ has been placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to May 10, with a left oblique strain.

Happ suffered the injury on May 9 against the New York Mets and has missed the last three games.

Strained tendon lands Guardians’ Lively on IL

Right-hander Ben Lively was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday due to a strained right flexor tendon.
