SAN JOSE — Firefighters responded to multiple fires south of the San Jose Mineta International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The blazes were reported at 4:21 p.m., and forward progress was stopped at 5:08 p.m., according to a social media post from the San Jose Fire Department. The fires received a tier 1 response.

The fires did not impact operations at the airport, said Julie Jarratt, the airport’s public information manager.

After the forward progress was stopped, firefighters began an “extensive” mop-up, authorities said.

Authorities had asked people to avoid the area as traffic was impacted.
