Basketball season is here — but who should you prioritize your hard-earned ticket money on?

We’ve got you covered with a list of the top 20 players in Macomb County heading into the 2024-25 season:

1. Phoenix Glassnor (De La Salle, G, Sr) Glassnor was the best player in Macomb County last year, too — the shifty guard, who has also been one of the best wide receivers in the area, is a Toledo commit and can be expected to pile on greatly to his already 1,000+ career points.

2. Markus Blackwell (Lincoln, G, Sr) An Eastern Illinois commit, Blackwell’s presence completely changed the eventual state champ Abes when he returned to the lineup after missing the early part of the season with an injury.

3. Geon Hutchins (Lincoln, G, Sr) Geon Hutchins has been one of the best yet most underappreciated guards in the OAA recently. With his transfer from Oak Park to Lincoln, the Northern Illinois commit has a chance to pair with some more of the best players in the area to win his first and their second rings.

4. Terez Holmes, (Center Line, F, Sr) Standing at 6-foot-7, Holmes is as dangerous as it gets in the front court this season in Macomb County. He won’t allow himself to only play like a big, either, as Holmes has worked hard on his ballhandling and shooting ability.

5. Moses Blackwell (Lincoln, G, Sr) Markus’ brother, Moses is arguably the most lethal shooter in Macomb County despite his much smaller frame.

6. Armani Portis (De La Salle, G, Sr) A returning all-county selection, Portis will once again be one of the stabilizing guards alongside Glassnor for a De La Salle squad that hopes to get the most out of its imminently-graduating top-end talent.

7. Cyrus Mpeba (Fitzgerald, W, Sr) Short for a forward but big for a guard, Mbepa is always going to be at a matchup advantage as the new go-to guy for Fitzgerald.

8. Dekovan Thomas (Dakota, G, Sr) The leader for Dakota this season, Thomas’ veteran presence and scoring acumen alone are going to make the Cougars a tough opponent all season.

9. Eli Miller (Ford II, F, Sr) Miller was a machine for the Falcons last season, consistently leading the team in points and putting up double-doubles.

10. Chris Morgan (Lincoln, F, Sr) Jackson was the secret X-factor behind Lincoln’s state tournament run last year, scoring 14 points in the state semifinals. At 6-foot-6, he can be deployed either under the basket or as a knockdown shooter.
