The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s Board of Education recently presented outstanding achievement awards to students, parents and staff from Fairfax Elementary School, Riley College Prep Academy Elementary School, Curtis Middle School and Virtual Academy.

The Outstanding Student awards honor excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts, citizenship and improvement. The board’s Outstanding Parent/Grandparent/Volunteer awards and Outstanding Employee awards recognize people for their dedication to student achievement and well-being, according to a news release.

Fairfax Elementary School students receiving Outstanding Student Awards at the event in October were second-grader Alexa Fuentes Vasquez and fifth-grader Markus Garcia.

Fairfax’s Outstanding Parent Award went to Natalie Rincon, and the Outstanding Employee Awards went to secretary Desiree Huerta and teacher Jason Scott.

Riley College Prep Academy Elementary School students receiving Outstanding Student Awards were fifth-grader Leo Garcia and fourth-grader Evelyn Palacios.

Riley’s Outstanding Parent Award went to Elizabeth Delgado, and the Outstanding Employee Awards went to bilingual health aide Alejandra Sanchez and program facilitator Scott Neuscheler.

Curtis Middle School students receiving Outstanding Student Awards were eighth-grader Jasaun Alonzo Lee Carswell and seventh-grader Oswaldo Moreno Cortes.

Curtis Middle School’s Outstanding Parent Award went to Marina Perez, and the Outstanding Employee Awards went to bilingual attendance technician Gabriela Caracoza and English language arts teacher Scott Velasquez.

Virtual Academy students receiving Outstanding Student Awards were senior Jaylin Soto and junior Malia Woods.

Virtual Academy’s Outstanding Parent Award went to Kesha McGee, and the Outstanding Employee Awards went to senior clerk Sonja Brock and high school English language arts teacher Lorie Myers.
