Firefighters stopped the forward progress of a brush fire in Malibu early Wednesday afternoon after it charred 40 acres and threatened two structures.

The blaze, tabbed the Broad fire, broke out at 9 a.m.

The two structures’ surrounding areas were on fire but the structures themselves were not burned, said Giovanni Sanchez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

As of 4 p.m., the fire was at 60% containment. That is how much of the fire’s perimeter officials don’t believe flames will expand beyond.
