A suspect was arrested on allegations he stole an Amazon delivery van in San Rafael.

The Amazon driver called authorities at about 4 p.m. Thursday after seeing the vehicle being driven away on Canal Street, said San Rafael police Lt. Scott Eberle. Officers used the van’s geotagging data to locate it in downtown San Rafael.

Police then chased the suspect until he stopped in a driveway and ran away.

He was arrested near the corner of C Street and Wolfe Avenue.

More than 100 packages were missing from the van, and investigators were working to find them, Eberle said.

Elijah Payne, 31, of San Rafael was booked into the Marin County Jail suspicion of vehicle theft, violating his probation terms, obstructing police, evading police and giving false information to an officer.

He is being held without a bail amount.
