Resident of Acampo, California
Mary passed away surrounded by her loving family on December 24, 2024. Mary was born on October 19, 1954, to Robert and Jean Hanson, the second of five children raised in Brentwood, CA. She attended school in Brentwood, CA & graduated from Liberty Union H.S. in 1972.
After high school she attended CSU, Sacramento, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She then completed a nursing program & became a Registered Nurse. She married the love of her life, John Moniz, in 1985. Mary and John settled in Acampo, CA where they raised their sons, Peter and Mark. Mary’s family was everything to her. Her greatest joy came from being a mother, raising her sons and being a part of their many activities with John.
Mary was also a dedicated nurse for 32 years. She worked in pediatrics at Sutter Memorial Hospital and Lucchetti Women’s & Children’s Center in Sacramento. She especially loved working in the Special Care Nursery, holding and feeding the babies in her care.
Mary was an avid reader, always surrounded by books and sharing the plot of her current most-favorite book.
She also loved meeting and lunching and talking with family and friends. Mary really loved the San Francisco Giants. She would be sad when baseball season ended, and she no longer had the “background music” of aGiants’ game broadcasting on the radio.
Mary had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic. She tirelessly volunteered at St. Anne’s School in Lodi during the time her sons were attending. More recently, Mary was a member of the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Joachim Church in Lockeford.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jean Hanson and her father and mother-in-law, John and Jean Moniz.
Mary is survived by her husband John, her son Peter and his fiancée, Erin, her son Mark, her brothers Bob and sister-in-law Dianna, Frank, Ed and sister-in-law Marty, sister Jeanette and brother-in-law Mark Dwelley, sister-in-law Kathy and brother-in-law David Atkinson.
