Steve Kerr’s son is the newest member of the Warriors’ NBA coaching staff.
Nicholas Kerr is joining the NBA team’s staff after spending the past two seasons as the head coach of the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League.
Santa Cruz went 20-14 in each of his two seasons in charge, making the postseason during both campaigns. Before that, Kerr was an assistant coach in Santa Cruz from 2021-23.
“Congratulations to Nicholas Kerr for being called up to rejoin the @warriors staff,” the Santa Cruz Warriors account posted on Instagram.
Lainn Wilson, Golden State’s head video coordinator for each of the past four seasons, was named Santa Cruz’s next head coach.
Before working in Santa Cruz, Kerr was an assistant coach on his father’s staff from 2018-21. He was a video coordinator and worked in player development during his time in the NBA.
Kerr, 32, played college basketball at San Diego and Cal from 2011-16.
The new coach joins a team that went 48-34 during the regular season. Golden State was knocked out of the postseason by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
With U.S. coach Emma Hayes giving many of her Europe-based players a break, there were several new faces on the national team for a trio of upcoming matches against Ireland and Canada.
Midfielder Rose Lavelle, who hasn’t played for the U.S. in more than six months, returned to the roster.
Former Stanford star Catarina Macario, Lindsey Heaps and Emily Fox were among the players given time off after the European season. One exception was defender Naomi Girma, the ex-Stanford star who is working her way back from a calf injury.
The United States plays Ireland on June 26 in Commerce City, Colorado, and again on June 29 in Cincinnati. The team plays Canada on July 2 in Washington, D.C.
The roster includes four players who have been called up to the national team for the first time: defenders Jordyn Bugg, Lilly Reale and Izzy Rodriguez, and midfielder Sam Meza. Six players on the 25-player roster have not yet appeared in a game for the senior national team. Bugg, 18, is the youngest player called into camp.
Hayes, who took over as national team coach last year, has been looking at new players as she prepares the team for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. She has given 27 players their first national team call-ups.
NHL
Nashville captain Roman Josi is expected at training camp in September after the Predators said the defenseman was diagnosed with postural tachycardia syndrome or POTS late last season.
The 2020 Norris Trophy winner and three-time All-Star was limited to 53 games this season by a concussion. His last game was Feb. 25 against now two-time Stanley Cup champion Florida when he didn’t return after driven hard into the end boards by Sam Bennett midway through the second period.
POTS doesn’t have a cure but can be treated. Its symptoms include a fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue.
Josi, who turned 35 at the start of June, was among the first six players selected Monday to Switzerland’s Olympic roster for the 2026 Winter Games in Italy.
The Stanley Cup is a little banged up, thanks to the Florida Panthers’ celebration of back-to-back titles.
The bowl of the famous trophy is cracked and the bottom is dented. Not for the first time and likely not the last.
The Panthers won their second consecutive championship on home ice Tuesday night, beating Edmonton in six games. The team, following decades of tradition, partied with the Cup into the wee hours and kept the revelry going in Fort Lauderdale well into Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Hockey Hall of Fame said the keepers of the Cup are taking the appropriate steps and plan to have it repaired by the celebration parade on Sunday.
COLLEGE
Sacramento State will join the Big West conference as a full member starting with the 2026-27 academic year.
Sacramento State informed the Big Sky that it will leave the conference after this year and the Big West announced that the school will become the 12th school in the conference.
The Big West doesn’t sponsor football so Sacramento State’s program will be an independent in that sport. The Hornets are trying to move up from FCS level to FBS as an independent and are awaiting a ruling next week from the NCAA Division I Council.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Coastal Carolina advanced to the College World Series finals with a 11-3 victory over Louisville, scoring five of its six first-inning runs before making an out and extending its win streak to 26 games.
The Chanticleers (56-11) earned a spot in the best-of-3 finals starting Saturday against LSU, which beat Arkansas 6-5 Wednesday. They are going for their second national championship in two all-time appearances in Omaha. They won their first in 2016.
