Charles Hugh “Charlie”
Stone, 96, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, in Pinole. He was a 1946 graduate of Huntington East High School andservedinthe Navy for four years during the era between World War II and the Korean War. He began his career with the Huntington Police Department before joining the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. After retirement, Charlie volunteered at Kaiser Hospital in Richmond. He was an active member of Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans, West Virginia, and later of Richmond First Baptist Church in California.
Most recently, Charlie attended Bay Hills Church in Richmond. In retirement, he was ordained as aBaptist minister. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, Charlie sang in choirs andgroupsthrough- out his life, lifting spirits with every note. He is lovingly remembered by his brother Karl Stone; sister Rosie Estep; son Brayton “Bud” Stone and wife Katherine; daughter Laura Priebe and husband Gary; grandchildren Charles Stone and wife, Shalana; Robert Stone; Ryan and Heather Priebe; great-grandsons Keilan, Aiden, and Lelan Stone; and Marcel Brisco; as well as many nieces and nephews. Charlie waspre- ceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Eleanor “Pete” Stone; brothers Jack and Bernie Stone; and sister Martha Thacker. Aviewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 5 at Sunset View Cemetery &Mortuary, 101 Colusa Ave, El Cerrito, CA, (510) 525-5111. On May 30at11a.m., amemorial service will be held at Valley Bible Church, 477 Willow Avenue, Hercules, CA. There family and friends will gather to honor a life so well lived. Charlie’s legacy lives on—in every life he touched through kindness, courage, faith—and song.
