Another year, another all-state list chock full of Macomb County talent.
Four Dakota players, two Stevenson Titans, two De La Salle Pilots and one Anchor Bay Tar were named to the MHSBCA Division 1 all-state teams for their performances this past season.
Highlighting the first team is Dakota’s Luke DeMasse, a pitcher/third baseman who helped lead the Cougars to the Division 1 state championship game. While he has starred for the past few seasons, he turned up his game in the playoffs, allowing zero earned runs in three games while shutting out No. 10 Brother Rice and No. 2 Bay City Western. DeMasse is committed to play collegiately at Ball State.
Joining him on the first team are teammates Evan Morrison, a first baseman, and Braylon Ryan, an outfielder.
Morrison, a Macomb CC commit, hit .410 with a 1.184 on-base plus slugging with 17 extra base hits, including three home runs, with 32 RBIs, 15 walks and a painful 20 hit by pitches.
Stevenson Titan Jake Leonard earned first team honors. Leonard is committed to play next season at Eastern Michigan.
From De La Salle, two-way phenom Mason Pilarski was awarded the sole utility spot on the first team before continuing his career at Western Michigan.
On the second team, Anchor Bay’s Tyler Finkbeiner highlights the pitchers, while Dakota’s Jadon Ford and Stevenson’s Alex Pierce earned spots in the infield. De La Salle’s Vito Zito was named a second-teamer behind the plate.
Finkbeiner is headed to the University of Michigan. Ford will play for Lansing Stars, Pierce is headed to Central Michigan and Zito will join Morrison at MCC.
In the Division 3 all-state list, Marine City’s Cooper Letson was named a first-teamer at catcher, becoming just the fourth Mariner ever to receive the award.
In Division 4, Cardinal Mooney’s Cameron Spezia was named a first-teamer as an infielder. Spezia will stay in-state to play for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies next season.
