The Aurora City Council has approved a bid of just over $570,000 to renovate the city’s Fire Station 3, the latest step in the planned renovation project.
On Tuesday, the City Council unanimously approved the awarding of the bid for the project as part of its consent agenda. The vendor for the project will be T. Fisher Construction, LLC, of Ingleside.
According to documents from the city, T. Fisher Construction’s bid was the lowest of the four being considered, coming in at $570,500.
This is the latest step in the renovation of Fire Station 3 at 600 W. Indian Trail, which currently has the same layout as when it was built in 1972, according to past reporting.
The renovation would include an overhaul of firefighters’ living quarters, Aurora Assistant Fire Chief Mike Kaufman has previously said.
The station’s upstairs is set to be renovated so that it has private sleeping areas for all firefighters, along with separate men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers.
The project would also include raising the ceilings of the restrooms to provide more space and reduce the risk of mold and mildew, along with other adjustments meant to make the station more hygienic, according to past reporting.
There are also plans to add glazing to the station’s windows facing Indian Trail for added privacy and thermal protection, replace the original laminate countertop in the station’s watch office and also replace HVAC units.
The project is set to be paid for using the Aurora Fire Department’s capital fund, which currently has $550,000 in it, according to past reporting. Costs exceeding that would come through the department’s general fund for repairs and maintenance of its buildings and grounds, Kaufman previously said.
