Marty Wetzel, born Martha Parks Coolidge in Carlinville, Illinois to Isabel and William Coolidge, passed away at home at 92. Marty graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1952, where she was a proud member of Sigma Kappa and met the love of her life, J. Janvier Wetzel Jr. Marty and Jan married on December 20, 1950 and later moved to Waikiki.

There they made lifelong Navy friends and enjoyed being newlyweds. The couple moved to Inglewood, Brea, and finally settled their family in South Pasadena. Marty was an elementary school teacher in the San Gabriel Valley.

After retiring from teaching in 1981, Marty embarked on a second career, co-owning and operating several locations of the Diet Center franchise. She was an active member of her community participating in the Pasadena Showcase House, Calvary Presbyterian, and South Pasadena Beautiful.

She served on the Board of Trustees for IWU and acted as co-president of the IWU Los Angeles Regional Alumni Association. She and Jan, along with many wonderful friends, traveled the world for many years. Marty enjoyed entertaining and hosting in her beautiful home. She supported the performing arts and was an avid lover of games including: bridge, Rummikub, and virtual poker. She found joy in the simple pleasures of romance novels and ice cream. She is survived by her three children Janvier Read (JR) (wife Lisa), Kay Wetzel Leavens (husband Mark) , and Timothy Ives (wife Dana), seven grandchildren Janvier Scott (wife Kylie), Nikki, Katie, Kenny, Blake, Mel, and Cooper, a great grandson Ford Janvier, three nephews and two nieces. A service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church in South Pasadena, Saturday June 24 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Marty’s name.
