Contractor picked for street sealing

The city has awarded a contract of up to $226,600 for road maintenance work this summer.

The project will involve about 274,000 square feet of slurry seal coating on Community Road, Eucalyptus Road, Lagoon Road, Peninsula Road, Pine Avenue and Tamalpais Avenue, according to a report by the public works office.

Six contracting companies submitted bids for the project, the report said. The range was $206,000 to $296,325. The city accepted the lowest bid, from Dryco Construction Inc. of Sacramento, and agreed to a 10% contingency for unforeseen costs.

The City Council approved the contract at its meeting Monday. The city expects the work to occur in July.

Appeal of project rejected by council

The City Council has denied an appeal challenging a home construction project on a hillside lot.

The vacant property is at 21 Chevy Chase Court at Owlswood Drive. The owner submitted a proposal to build a 1,890-square-foot, two-story house, an attached 506-square-foot garage and an attached 468-square-foot junior accessory dwelling unit, according to the city planning office. The project requires a setback variance, a natural state variance, a floor area ratio exception and a slope use permit.

The Planning Commission approved the project in March. Several neighbors appealed to the City Council, citing concerns such as landslide risks, traffic, privacy intrusion and potential water runoff problems.

The council held a public hearing May 7 and upheld the Planning Commission approval, said Elise Semonian, the city’s community development director.
