Bishop O’Dowd golfer Sydney Silva is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week, and Liberty water polo player Qusai Drief is the boys athlete of the week for Oct. 21-26.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Silva finished with 53.88% of the votes. The King’s Academy flag football player Mia Bennette placed second.

In the boys poll, Drief had 39.06% to finish ahead of Branham cross country runner Alijah Murillo, who finished just behind at 38.04%.

Silva, a senior committed to Arizona, led the Dragons to a West Alameda County Conference title, carding a 3-under-par 68.

Drief, a senior, scored five goals, dished out two assists, stole five passes and had two sprint wins to lead Liberty to a 17-4 win over Freedom. Liberty has won the Bay Valley Athletic League regular-season title.
