Mount Tamalpais received nearly 11 inches of rain between Saturday and Monday as a series of storms makes its way through the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.
Other rainfall totals for the three-day period included 6.77 inches in Woodacre, 4.14 inches in Kentfield, 3.39 inches in Point Reyes and about an inch in Novato, said Dalton Behringer, a meteorologist with the agency.
Forecasters expect similar amounts from a windier storm Monday night and today. The rain will come in two heavy rounds and bring a 15% risk of flash flooding to the North Bay, the weather agency said.
A third and weaker rain system is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Oakland received about 2.1 inches of rain between Friday and Monday morning, while San Francisco received nearly four-tenths of an inch, San Jose 0.07 inches and Walnut Creek 0.7 inches.National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Merchant said the stormy weather Monday night and today could deliver 2 to 3 inches in the East Bay, an inch in the South Bay and 3 to 5 inches in the upper elevations of the North Bay.
βThe upper level trough is driving into our area, and that trough is going to push the moisture south,β Merchant said.
The weather agency said excessive runoff from the rain could result in flooding, and the combination of wind and moist ground could increase the chances of falling trees. The agency issued a flood watch from Cloverdale down through Monterey and into Big Sur β including all of the Bay Area β through 4 a.m. Wednesday.
In the Sierra Nevada, at least an inch and as many as 3 inches of snow were expected above 8,000 feet and up to 6 inches were anticipated below it. The weather service issued a winter storm warning from 10 p.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Wednesday, with difficult travel conditions.
The moisture is expected to continue through Thursday, before clearing starts on Friday. By Saturday, sunny weather is expected in much of the region, with temperatures peaking in the low 60s.
