




Juggler to perform, hold workshop at Gail Borden Library
Jason Kollum will present his show “See a Juggler! Be a Juggler!” from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Meadows Community Rooms at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.
Kollum’s program features comedy juggling and a variety show for all ages, according to a news release. After the show, Kollum will offer an interactive, hands-on workshop at which kids of all ages can try some of the things he did in the show.

Program to focus on Chicago Cubs’ early 20th century dynasty
Author Gary Santella will talk about his book, “The 1906-1910 Cubs Dynasty: Rowdy Times and Rugged Men in Cutthroat Chicago,” from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rakow Branch of the Gail Borden Public Library, 2751 W. Bowes Road, Elgin.
The Cubs in that era were made up of a “group of brawlers, bickerers and battlers, dominated the National League and established a baseball dynasty, winning four National League pennants and two world championships in five years,” according to the Arcadia Publishing web page for Santella’s book.
The program coincides with current Cubs’ home opener set for Friday, April 4, at Wrigley Field.

Violinist Vargas to perform at ESO weekend concerts
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert with guest violinist Samuel Vargas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.
Concert performances are to feature Jimmy Lopez’s “Fiesta,” Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5., according to the ESO website.
Vargas has performed on tours in 40 countries, collaborating with such artists as Gustavo Dudamel, Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Claudio Abbado and Christian Vasquez.
Tickets range from $10 to $65 and can be purchased at www .elginsymphony.org.
Easter Bunny to be at Randall Oaks Zoo in West Dundee
The Easter Bunny will be making appearances from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at the Randall Oaks Zoo, 1180 N. Randall Road, West Dundee.
Visitors can take their own photos with the guest of honor as well as take hayrides through Randall Oaks Park and participate in spring-themed games.
Sunday zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and regular admission fees apply, according to the Dundee Township Park District website. For more information, call 847-551-4312.
Dundee historical society opens new Fox River display
The Dundee Township Historical Society has opened a new exhibit about the Fox River at its West Dundee museum.
It starts with the glacial formation of the Fox River Valley, according to a social media post from the Friends of the Fox River, and covers such things as the installation of the wooden Carpenter dam in the 1930s to provide ice for the community and power for flour and wood mills.
Photos also chronicle the removal of the Carpentersville dam last year and how that has changed the look and flow of the river, the post said.
