Caitlin Clark picked her Indiana teammate Aliyah Boston No. 1 while Napheesa Collier took her Unrivaled business partner Breanna Stewart first in the WNBA All-Star Game draft on Tuesday.

Clark’s other choices for starters were New York’s Sabrina Ionescu, Las Vegas’ A’ja Wilson and Phoenix’s Satou Sabally, and she picked Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell as a reserve.

Collier drafted Atlanta’s Allisha Gray, Seattle’s Nneka Ogwumike and Dallas rookie Paige Bueckers to complete her starting five.

After Collier took Minnesota teammate Courtney Williams first in the reserve portion of the draft, Clark selected Mitchell. Two Seattle players went next with Skylar Diggins going to Collier and Gabby Williams to Clark, who passed up on the chance to draft fellow second-year player and longtime rival Angel Reese.

Collier took Reese with the third pick in the reserve draft.

She rounded out her squad with Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas, Los Angeles’ Kelsey Plum and Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard. Clark also drafted Washington rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, Las Vegas’ Jackie Young and Golden State’s Kayla Thornton.

Williams, Citron, Iriafen and Thornton are making their All-Star debuts.

When the draft was over, the captains traded coaches to put Cheryl Reeve of the Lynx back with her players, Collier and Williams.

Sandy Brondello of the New York Liberty will coach Clark’s team.

The game will be played on July 19 in Indianapolis.

Bonner headed back to Mercury as free agent

DeWanna Bonner has rejoined the Phoenix Mercury, signing as a free agent.

She helped the franchise win two WNBA titles in her previous stint with the team which drafted her fifth in 2009.

The 37-year-old Bonner is third all time on the league’s scoring list and is a six-time All-Star. She originally signed with Indiana as a free agent to start the year before deciding that the fit wasn’t right for her and asking to be waived by the franchise.

She’ll reunite in Phoenix with her fiancee and former Sun teammate Alyssa Thomas.

St. Paul powers past Iowa with three homers

The Saints turned a tie game into a rout by scoring six runs over their final two turns at the plate in an 11-5 defeat of Iowa at CHS Field.

Aaron Sabato broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh with a three-run blast, before Emmanuel Rodriguez matched the feat in the eighth. Both had three total hits in the game.

Payton Eeles went 4 for 5 with two runs scored, Rodriguez crossed the plate four times.

Trent Baker claimed the win with three innings of relief after initially allowing the I-Cubs to tie the score in the sixth.

NHL, NHLPA ratifies CBA extension until ‘30

The NHL and NHL Players’ Association have ratified their extension of the collective bargaining agreement.

That secures labor peace in the sport through 2030.

The league and union announced in a joint news release that the deal had been approved.

The sides came to a tentative agreement on the four-year extension last month.

It took a vote of the Board of Governors and the full NHLPA membership. Among other things, it includes an 84-game regular season with less exhibition play.

Former Kraken coach Hakstol joins Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche added former Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol to their staff as an assistant to boost a power-play unit that struggled in the postseason.

Hakstol joins an Avalanche staff under coach Jared Bednar that includes Nolan Pratt, goaltending coach Jussi Parkkila and assistant/video coach Brett Heimlich.

The 56-year-old Hakstol will direct a power play that features Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar but scuffled against Dallas in the first round of the playoffs. The team was 3 of 22 on the man advantage in a series that went seven games.

Hakstol served as the first head coach in Kraken history and was in charge from 2021-24. His team made the postseason in 2023 and eliminated the Avalanche in the first round of a series that went seven games. He finished 107-112-27 with Seattle.

Cousins says he played through arm injury

Kirk Cousins said on the Netflix series “Quarterback” that he played through an injury to his right, throwing arm last season in part to keep from losing his starting job with Atlanta to rookie backup Michael Penix Jr.

At minicamp last month, Cousins said he realized after last season he wasn’t as healthy as he thought he was at the time, citing an ankle injury that affected his mobility.

In the episode, he said he made the best decision he could at the time after taking a big hit to his right shoulder and ribcage from New Orleans’ Payton Turner on Nov. 10.

Pogacar wins Tour de France fourth stage

Defending champion Tadej Pogacar secured the 100th professional victory of his stellar career in typically flamboyant style, beating Mathieu Van der Poel in a dash to the line to win the hilly fourth stage of the Tour de France.

The 26-year-old Slovenian star wore a cap with 100 written on it when he spoke after the stage.

His long list of wins includes 18 stage wins at the Tour de France, the world road race, a multitude of one-day classics and other stage wins at races like the Giro d’Italia, the Paris-Nice and Critérium du Dauphiné.

Big East, ESPN agree on six-year media deal

The Big East Conference and ESPN announced a six-year digital media rights deal.

ESPN had the rights to the Big East from 1980 to 2013. The revived partnership comes after ESPN lost Big Ten media rights to Fox, NBC and CBS in 2022.

Financial terms of the deal were not included in the announcement.
