‘Legally Blonde’ takes to stage in March
The San Lorenzo Valley Theatre Department presents “Legally Blonde The Musical” with seven performances from March 3-12 at the SLV Performing Arts Center, 7105 Highway 9, Felton.
The musical comedy is directed by Daria E. Troxell, with music and vocal direction by Nicki Kerns. Performances are 7 p.m. March 3, March 4, March 10, March 11 and at 2 p.m. for matinees March 5 and March 12 with a special Community Night performance at 7 p.m. March 9.
Advance tickets are available online via hs.slvusd.org. A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase at the door one hour prior to showtime.
“Legally Blonde The Musical” is rated PG-13. Some content may not be appropriate for younger audience members. It is based on the MGM film starring Reese Witherspoon.
Ticket prices are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, students and SLV staff. For the March 9 community night performance only, all tickets are $15.

Tree work planned on San Andreas Road
The County of Santa Cruz Department of Community Development and Infrastructure announced that tree work will be performed from 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. March 1 on San Andreas Road near Marea Avenue.

Workshop teaches pruning of fruit trees
The UC Master Gardeners of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties will host two workshops on pruning fruit trees for optimum health and harvest from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m. March 11 at San Juan Bautista State Historic Park, 19 Franklin St., San Juan Bautista.
Bring your gloves and clippers for a hands-on fruit tree pruning demonstration at the park. After a brief demonstration and orientation, you’ll join UC Master Gardeners Diane Mahan and Debra Stone in the orchard for an opportunity to analyze established fruit trees and practice your newfound pruning skills.
Attendance is limited to 30 people. The workshop is free.

Film lineup set for Banff film festival
UC Santa Cruz Adventure Rec announced list of films screening at Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour Santa Cruz. The films will screen at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Rio Theatre, 1205 Soquel Ave., Santa Cruz.
This event supports UC Santa Cruz Adventure Rec student programs, affording UCSC students the chance to share in the magic of outdoor adventures.

Curtain to rise on ‘Pipeline’ at UC Santa Cruz
A mother’s hopes for her son clash with an educational system rigged against him in Dominique Morisseau’s Pipeline. Chowder cook-off slated this weekend
The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is calling all professional and amateur chefs for the 42nd annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off. The fundraiser for the City of Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department is a two-day event, with amateur chefs competing Saturday and professional chefs Sunday.
