Freshmen guard Liliana Whitmeyer scored a game-high 21 points to help St. Francis High’s girls basketball team beat visiting Greenfield 67-38 and remain unbeaten in Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division play Thursday.
Whitmeyer, a freshman guard, also had six steals, three assists, and two rebounds.
Sophomore guard Maya Calfee, the division’s defending MVP, had 16 points, six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and three blocks for the Sharks (12-2, 5-0).
The Sharks totaled 17 assists. Freshman guard Keira Grio had 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Freshman guard Abby Bedolla had 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals, and Maeve Flynn chipped in seven points.
Aleena Salas scored a team-high 13 points for the Bruins (3-7, 3-2). Lesley Santiago added 11 points.
The Sharks play at Santa Catalina (0-8, 0-3) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Watsonville 47, at Soledad 26 >> Junior Stephanie Martinez had 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, and the Wildcatz won their PCAL Gabilan Division game Thursday.
Freshman Isabella Alvarez had 12 points and three steals for the Wildcatz (13-3, 3-1). Junior Leilani Yasin had 10 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks, and senior Hailey Brooks made seven steals
The Wildcatz host Monterey (4-7, 1-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
At Monte Vista Christian 51, North Salinas 31 >> Senior Sophia Cortes scored a game-high 23 points, and the Mustangs won their PCAL Mission Division game Thursday.
Senior Amya Tellez scored 12 points for MVC (5-10, 1-2). Sophomore Emily Madison score nine points and freshman Mia Malaspina chipped in with seven points.
Corina Randolph led the Vikings (1-14, 0-4) with 21 points.
The Mustangs host Stevenson (13-2, 2-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Pacific Collegiate 40, at Pajaro Valley 22 >> Sophomore forward Kat Buckley had 20 points, 14 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks, and the Pumas won their PCAL Cypress Division game Thursday.
Junior guard Julia Guth made three 3s in the second half and finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for the Pumas (6-6, 2-2).
Pumas senior guard Addie Payne had six blocks, four assists, and four rebounds.

Boys basketball
At St. Francis 93, Greenfield 83 >> Nash Horton had 29 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and four steals, and the 2024-25 Sharks broke their own school record for points in a game in their PCAL Cypress Division win Thursday.
It was Horton’s 10th double-double of the season.
The Sharks scored 92 points twice this season, against Anzar to open nonleague action Nov. 25 and San Jose’s Cindy Avitia on Dec. 11. It’s the fourth time this season that they’ve scored 90 or more points.
The Sharks, who trailed 24-17 after the first quarter, outscored the Bruins 32-16 in the third quarter and carried a 76-58 lead into the final stanza. The Sharks’ 32-point quarter was a season best.
Robert Gomez made six 3-pointers and scored 26 points for the Sharks (14-3, 5-0). He also had four steals and two rebounds.
St. Francis’ Isaiah Villalobos made three 3s, scored 22 points, and had three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Jacob Jimenez had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Junior Jonathan Miranda made eight 3s and scored a game-high 32 points for the Bruins (7-8, 1-3).
St. Francis plays PCS (2-8, 0-4) at Enterprise Gym in Scotts Valley on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
Gonzales 69, at PCS 30 >> Junior Ian Bulfin scored a team-high 10 points, but the Pumas were unable to keep pace with the Spartans in their PCAL Cypress Division game Thursday.
The Spartans jumped out to an 8-0 advantage and led 20-7 after one quarter. They made nine of their 10 3-pointers in the first half.
“We were never in this game,” Pumas coach Duane Garner said. “Couldn’t stop them and we could not score.”
Junior Garrett Koontz added eight points for the Pumas (2-8, 0-4), who plays at Greenfield (7-8, 1-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Girls soccer
At Aptos 8, San Lorenzo Valley 2 >> Alexa Castaneda made four assists and scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute to cap the Mariners’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League rout Thursday.
Isabella Hartnett scored twice for the Mariners, giving her a team-leading 12 goals on the season. Aptos (7-2-0, 2-0-0) has scored five or more goals in each of its past five matches.
Gigi Zuniga and Jordan Brown each had a goal and an assist. Emily Santiago, Scarlet Stateler, and Aubrie Ford also scored for the defending league champion.
Goalkeeper Evelyn Pini made one save for the Mariners, who host Soquel (7-2-1, 2-0-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
SLV (1-6-0, 0-2-0) plays at Harbor (0-8-0, 0-2-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Soquel 2, at Santa Cruz 0 >> Senior forward Isela Gonzalez and sophomore forward Lynaea Vallett scored for the Knights in their SCCAL win Thursday.
Gonzalez finished off a pass from Trinity Wilson, and Vallett scored on a corner kick from Arden Salles.
“I felt like we played better than our first game,” Knights coach Jose Sierra said. “We improved controlling possession and connecting passes. … This win was a complete team effort.”
Soquel outshot Santa Cruz 16-4.
Goalie Ari Flores made eight saves for the Cardinals.
“The girls played well at times, but reverted back to some old bad habits,” Cardinals coach Poul Schiebel said. “Being a young team, there’s going to be some ups and downs. Soquel with 10 seniors showed their veteran play. … We will grow from this.”
On Tuesday at 7 p.m., Soquel (7-2-1, 2-0-0) plays at Aptos (7-2-0, 2-0-0), while Santa Cruz (3-5-1, 1-1-0) hosts Scotts Valley (4-3-3, 1-1-0).
Scotts Valley 1, at Harbor 0 >> Sophomore Taylor Ericson headed in a corner kick from senior Dillon Fiorita in the 79th minute, and the Falcons won their SCCAL match Thursday.
Scotts Valley took a total of 27 shots.
“Harbor’s keeper made a ton of really great saves,” Falcons coach Taylor Raymond said.
Goalie Athena Forbus made six saves for the Pirates. Jazzy Phillips made two saves for the Falcons.

Pajaro Valley 3, at PCS 2 >> Valeria Acosta scored twice in the first 12 minutes and had an assist, and the Grizzlies won their PCAL Mission Division at Soquel High on Thursday.
Acosta, the Grizzlies’ all-time career scoring leading, has 29 goals on the season.
Scarlet Gomez scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute for the Grizzlies (12-1-0, 5-0-0). Leslie Carrisoza had an assist.
Anna Walker-Edwards scored twice for PCS (4-5-0, 2-2-0). She finished off a pass from Elia Mas in the 30th minute, and finished off a pass from Kate Lane in the 37th minute.
PCS goalie Hailey Woelfel had three saves in the first 20 minutes. Amelie Pan took over and played the rest of the game and made 12 saves.

“The girls created numerous scoring opportunities, but struggled to capitalize on them,” Mustangs coach Juan Diego Alvarez said. “It was one of those games where things just didn’t quite come together. Despite this, the team fought hard, stayed engaged, and never gave up.”
Freshman goalie Charlotte Groves made four saves for the Mustangs (3-5-2, 1-2-1), who host Gilroy in a nonleague match on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Aptos 41, Santa Cruz 39 >> The Mariners had four wrestlers earn pins, one won by tech fall, and two won by forfeit to sneak past the Cardinals in the teams’ dual meet at Soquel High on Wednesday night.
The Mariners’ Dominic Cabot (115 pounds), Cole Moules (159), Lucas Zuniga (217) earned pins in the second period of their respective matches, and Johnny Stoner (140) won by pin in the third period.
Cruz Contreras (134) won by a technical fall, a win over 15 or more points, 15-0 in the third period.
Santa Cruz’s Balam Letona (122) won an 8-6 decision over Alfred Cabot.
Five of Letona’s teammates won by pin. Mauricio Montoreano (152), Rhodri Griffin (167), and Ronan Madden (192) won by pins in the first period, Adriana Renau (108) pinned his opponent in the second period, and River Bentley (128) won by pin in the third period.
