Thwarted in their attempt to trade for Juan Soto when the San Diego Padres swung a blockbuster deal with the Washington Nationals, the Dodgers pivoted to Joey Gallo, acquiring the two-time American League All-Star outfielder from the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospect Clayton Beeter.

In other moves related to roster flexibility, the Dodgers traded Jake Lamb to the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations or a player to be named later and sent right-hander Mitch White and infielder Alex De Jesus to the Toronto Blue Jays for two low-level minor league pitchers.

The Dodgers pursued pitchers Luis Castillo and Pablo Lopez, hitters J.D. Martinez and Ian Happ but came away empty-handed in those attempts.
