A man who has multiple felony arrest warrants out of South Dakota was arrested Tuesday in Lyons.

According to a news release, Travis Stadheim, 45, was located Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of Main Street in Lyons by the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Colorado Violent Offender Task Force as well as officers and the deputies from neighboring law enforcement agencies “safely apprehended Stadheim at around 3 p.m.”, according to the release.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Andrew Gallagher with the District of Colorado said that one of the primary charges in Stadheim’s arrest warrants was felony possession of a controlled substance.

Stadheim “has additional pending charges from a vehicle pursuit in South Dakota he was (allegedly) involved in on Feb. 23 for aggravated vehicular eluding and assault on a peace officer,” Gallagher said.

Stadheim is being held in custody at the Boulder County Jail and is set for a hearing on advisement Thursday.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said out of an abundance of caution, a school in Lyons was put on secure status during the operation and traffic was briefly diverted on U.S. 36 during the arrest.“The (sheriff’s office) is thankful to the United States Marshals Service and its partner agencies,” the release reads. “We would also like to thank the Longmont Public Safety Department, Lyons Fire Protection District, Englewood Police Department and the St. Vrain Valley School District for their assistance today.”

The Colorado Violent Offender Task Force is composed of deputy U.S. marshals and sworn special deputy U.S. marshals from numerous Colorado law enforcement agencies including the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Boulder Police Department, Colorado Department of Corrections, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, among others.

Gallagher said the majority of the fugitives the task force deals with are considered violent offenders.

“A lot of them have a history of trying to flee or fight with law enforcement and are generally wanted for more violent crimes,” Gallagher said.

The task force actively seeks out and apprehends wanted individuals throughout Colorado and the United States, according to the release.
