


A Lim Kim leads LPGA in Singapore by a stroke over Charley Hull after 1st round
SINGAPORE>> A Lim Kim tamed swirling winds to shoot a 4-under 68 and take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the HSBC Women’s World Championship on Thursday.
Kim had five birdies but bogeyed the par-5 16th in tough windy conditions on the Tanjong course at Sentosa Golf Club.
Charley Hull of England was in second place after a bogey-free 69, followed by four players tied for third with 70s, including China’s Ruoning Yin and Australia’s Minjee Lee.
World No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand and No. 3 Lydia Ko of New Zealand, the two highest-ranked players in the field, each shot 71.
Hamilton is enjoying his new Ferrari as Carlos Sainz goes fastest in testing
SAKHIR, Bahrain>> Lewis Hamilton said he’s “really enjoying” driving his new Ferrari after he was narrowly beaten in Formula 1 testing results on Thursday by the driver he replaced at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz, Jr.
Hamilton’s time from the morning session was the fastest for much of the day until new Williams driver Sainz beat it by .031 of a second.
Hamilton’s Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc was third fastest, .083 off the pace, with a much larger gap to Mercedes’ George Russell in fourth, 0.43 off Sainz’s time.
Hamilton and Sainz were over a second faster than the best lap from the first day of testing Wednesday, which was set by Lando Norris for McLaren.
Griekspoor beats Medvedev to reach Dubai semifinals
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates>> Tallon Griekspoor saved four match points before beating top-seeded Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 to reach the semifinals at the Dubai Championships on Thursday.
Griekspoor will meet fourth-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas for a shot at the title. Tsitsipas beat Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4.
Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to set up a semifinal against qualifier Quentin Halys, who eliminated Luca Nardi 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
White Sox outfielder Benintendi out 4 to 6 weeks with broken hand
GLENDALE, Ariz. >> Chicago White Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi will miss four to six weeks with a broken hand after being hit by a pitch in a spring training game on Thursday.
Benintendi was hit on the right hand with an 87 mph fastball by Cleveland right-hander Logan Allen in the first inning and left the game. The White Sox announced the diagnosis as a non-displaced fracture, with no surgery required.
USC, UCLA, Texas and Notre Dame are projected top women’s seeds
JuJu Watkins and Southern California have moved up to a No. 1 seed in the women’s NCAA Tournament in the latest projections of the top teams.
The Trojans would be joined by UCLA, Texas and Notre Dame as the top seeds if the tournament began now, according to the NCAA selection committee, which on Thursday did its second reveal of the teams in line for the top 16 seeds.
Committee chair Derita Dawkins said the group was impressed with USC’s win over UCLA, which happened before the first reveal. That was the Bruins’ only loss this season, and Dawkins noted that the top three teams haven’t lost a game since then.
