Aptos High tennis teammates Kiana Safari and Aviana Andrews advanced to the singles final at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League championships in Aptos on Tuesday.

Scotts Valley’s Sofia Niklaus and Erin Szymanski, and Aptos’ Isabella Calderon and Coral Collins advanced to the doubles final.

The singles and doubles championships will be held at Imperial Courts Tennis Club in Aptos on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Safari lost just one game in her first two matches to reach the final. She beat Santa Cruz’s Maddie McGrath 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals, and Harbor’s Addison Kimmel 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

Andrews beat Scotts Valley’s Aila Papadopoulos 7-5, ret. in the semifinals, and San Lorenzo Valley’s Kaitlin Houston 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Scotts Valley’s Niklaus and Szymanski beat Aptos’ Natalia Calderon and Charlotte Long 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals, and Soquel’s Lucy Federspiel and Ayla Hymes 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Aptos’ Calderon and Collins beat Santa Cruz’s Lou Ellis and Francesca Garces 6-0, 6-2 in the semifinals, and SLV’s Claire Hamilton and Abi Krepelka 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

The singles champion advances to the Central Coast Section singles championship at Bay Club Courtside in Los Gatos on Nov. 18 at noon. The doubles champion advances to the doubles tournament at Bay Club on Nov. 19 at noon.

Girls golf

CCS Championships >> Scotts Valley’s Lauren Ohlsson shot 100 and tied for 91st at the Central Coast Section Championships at Laguna Seca Golf Ranch in Carmel on Tuesday.

Scotts Valley’s Maisey Chard, the SCCAL individual champion, shot 101 and tied for 95th. Serena Sanford-Brantley (178) and Rebecca Ervine (186) also competed for the Falcons, the SCCAL team champion.

St. Ignatius’ Stevie Umali (68) edged Stevenson’s Lucinda Wu (68) in a playoff for medalist honors.

Scotts Valley’s Ashley Gettleman, a junior at Stevenson, shot 76 and helped the Pirates (375) take second place behind team champion Valley Christian (366) of San Jose. Harker (398) of San Jose took third and also qualified for the NorCal Championships.

Scotts Valley took an incomplete and placed 17th.

Men’s soccer

Las Positas 3, at Cabrillo 2 >> Yoan Ponio and Luca Venturoli scored goals in the second half of the Seahawks’ Coast Conference crossover loss Tuesday.

Saul Tecle staked Las Positas to a 2-0 lead after he produced goals in the 13th and 60th minutes.

Ponio finished off a pass from Eduardo Alvarez in the 70th minute to narrow Cabrillo’s deficit, but Cooper Kennedy sealed Cabrillo’s fate with his tally four minutes later.

Venturoli capped scoring with his goal in the 80th minute.

Goalie Carlos Bajaras made five saves for the Seahawks, and Las Positas made eight saves.

A total of six yellow cards were given out for unsafe/unsportmanlike play in the chippy battle, including four against the Seahawks.

Cabrillo (6-7-3, 4-5-1) plays at Evergreen Valley (13-2-3) in a crossover match on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Coast-To-Coast Conference >> UC Santa Cruz will host the 2024 Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament on its Lower East Field this weekend.

In the semifinals on Friday, No. 1 seed Christopher Newport (14-0-2) faces No. 4 Salisbury (5-5-7) at 11 a.m., and No. 2 UCSC (8-2-5) vs. No. 3 Mary Washington (9-5-4) at 2 p.m.

The semifinal winners square off in Sunday’s championship at 10 a.m.

The tournament champion earns a berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

West Valley 5, at Cabrillo 1 >> The Seahawks lost in their Coast Conference North Division match Tuesday.

Amanda Avila had four goals and an assist for the Vikings (12-4-2, 6-1-1).

Cabrillo (5-11-1, 2-4-0) hosts Evergreen Valley (6-6-5) in a conference crossover match on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
