


SAN JOSE >> A pedestrian died Monday afternoon after he was hit by a driver in a parking lot in San Jose, according to authorities.
San Jose police received a call about 12:35 p.m. reporting a crash in the 2500 block of South King Road, a police news release said.
A man driving a 2014 Toyota minivan was traveling south through a parking lot and then continued eastbound in a parking aisle. He hit an elderly man who was walking through the parking lot, authorities said.
The pedestrian had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. His condition deteriorated and he died about four hours later.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation; he wasn’t believed to have been impaired during the crash, according to authorities.
The pedestrian’s name will be released after confirmation of identity and notification of next of kin.
It’s the 31st traffic fatality incident in San Jose and the 19th pedestrian death from a vehicle crash in 2022.
