


Donovan Mitchell is expected to be ready for the Cavaliers’ playoff run despite missing the last four games of the regular season with a sprained left ankle.
The All-Star guard was injured April 6 during the second half against the Kings. He worked out on the court before Sunday’s double-overtime loss to the Pacers after getting a full workout in at the team’s training facility Saturday.
Mitchell was one of nine players, including four starters, that the Cavs rested for Sunday’s regular-season finale. The Cavaliers (63-18) are the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.
As the top seed, their first game isn’t expected to be until April 20.
Mitchell leads the Cavaliers in scoring, averaging 24 points per game. He’s the only player in the league averaging at least 24 points in 32 minutes or fewer.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed that Jaylen Brown received pain management injections last week to help his troublesome right knee that’s limited his playing time the last month. The reigning NBA Finals MVP sat out the Celtics’ last two games of the regular season. Mazzulla said it’s “just part of the rehab process for him to get back to be his absolute best.” When asked if he was confident Brown would be ready for the start of the playoffs, Mazzulla said: “A hundred percent.” ... The Trail Blazers signed coach Chauncey Billups to a multiyear contract extension. Terms of the deal weren’t released. The Blazers have missed the playoffs in each of Billups’ four seasons.
College football: Former LSU WR Kyren Lacy was found dead Saturday night in Houston, the school confirmed. A cause of death wasn’t yet known. Lacy, 24, was accused of causing a car crash that killed a 78-year-old man on Dec. 17 and then fleeing the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities. On Jan. 12, he turned himself in to authorities, was jailed and then released on $151,000 bail.
