Santa Cruz High senior guard Tiera O’Connor, who didn’t play for the Cardinals in the winter after helping lead the program to back-to-back Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League titles, will continue her basketball and academic careers at NCAA Division II San Francisco State University.

O’Connor, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward, shared SCCAL MVP honors with Aptos freshman Gabby Wickham in 2023-24.

The Gators (9-18 overall) went 7-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association under interim head coach Moné Peoples this year.

High school softball

Pajaro Valley 19, at Seaside 17 >> The Grizzlies nearly scored 20 runs and needed every one in their narrow Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division win Wednesday.

Sophomore Hemeria Delatorre had five hits, including two doubles and a home run, one walk, five RBI, and scored five runs for the Grizzlies (5-8, 3-3).

Junior Olivia Contreras and freshman Nadia Renteria each had two hits, three RBI, and three runs scored for Pajaro Valley. Senior Angie Torres had three hits, three RBI, and one run scored. Junior Virginia Escobar had three hits, two RBI, and scored twice, and junior Jaqueline Alvarez Zavala had four hits, one RBI, and a run scored.

Junior Gloria Morales, who drew three walks, and freshman Zaria Cadenas Carrillo each scored twice.

Sophomore Maryjane Le had four hits, two RBI, and scored four runs for the Spartans (1-8, 0-7).

Delatorre picked up the complete-game win.

Pajaro Valley hosts Santa Catalina on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

At Hollister 7, Watsonville 1 >> Taylor Alves had a hit and one RBI, and Olivia Martinez scored the Wildcatz’s lone run in their PCAL Gabilan Division loss Wednesday.

Amelia Martinez and Mia Espinoza each had two hits for the Wildcatz (11-8, 1-5).

Eliana Hatchett earned the win, and Martinez took the loss.

Watsonville plays at Salinas (9-4, 5-1) on Monday at 5 p.m.

High school baseball

At Stevenson 3, Monte Vista Christian 2 >> The Mustangs gave up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and the host Pirates earned a walk-off win in the teams’ PCAL Mission Division game Wednesday.

Evan Vessey had two hits and scored a run for MVC (14-4, 5-2). Tyson Shaw also scored.

Reggie Bell produced the winning hit for the Pirates (10-5, 6-1), a two-run double. Jacob Hall had three hits, including a pair of doubles.

Phinn Thomas earned the complete-game win; Jackson Haddad took the loss.

MVC hosts Stevenson on Friday at 4 p.m.

Scotts Valley 4, at Harbor 2 >> Sophomore Monte Jordan had two hits and one RBI, and senior Lukas Bloom had two hits and a run scored in the Falcons’ SCCAL win Wednesday.

Seniors Kaleb Wing and Tyler Howard, and sophomore Nick Acton also scored for the Falcons (9-10, 5-4). Wing drew two walks and stole two bases.

Sophomore Bryce McDonnell pitched five innings and earned the win. Bloom pitched two innings and earned the save.

Harbor (12-7, 3-6) plays at North Salinas (9-5) in nonleague action on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Scotts Valley plays at Santa Cruz (10-6, 7-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Boys tennis

Soquel 6, Harbor 1 >> Cian Francis beat Andrew Bachar 6-3, 2-6, 13-11 at No. 1 singles to help lift the first time SCCAL champion Knights (9-0) past the short-handed Pirates on Wednesday.

Luke Griffin and Andreas Martinez won 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 at No. 1 doubles for the Pirates, who defaulted in the other five matches.

At Stevenson 6, MVC 1 >> Connor Fisher and Connor Mace beat Max Tierney and Tasuku Nagashima 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles for the Mustangs’ lone win against the unbeaten Pirates in the teams’ PCAL Gabilan Division finale on Wednesday.

MVC’s Ben Spengler lost to Jacob Forste 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 at No. 4 singles, and Vinni Fluegge and Baden Kent lost 6-1, 4-6, 12-10 at No. 1 doubles.

The Pirates host the Gabilan Division Singles and Doubles Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday to determine the division’s representatives at the CCS Individual Tournament.

Stevenson advances to the CCS team tournament, which begins on May 7.

Boys golf

At Aptos 228, Scotts Valley 244 >> The Falcons’ Adrian Creamer shot 7-over-par 42 for medalist honors on the front nine at Seascape Golf Club on Wednesday, but the Mariners won in the teams’ SCCAL finale.

Ben Nowark (45), Colby Culbertson (45), Nick Bjorn (45), Leland Blankenship (46), and Will Bartch (47) scored for the Mariners (8-2).

Seamus Drees (47), Zane Siechen (47), Brogan Beasley (53), and Gavin Doherty (55) also scored for the Falcons.

The SCCAL Championship, an individual qualifier for the CCS Regional Tournament, will be held at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Boys track and field

North Salinas at MVC >> Juniors Gavin Beckmen and Owen Bingham each won two individual events for the Mustangs in their PCAL meet Wednesday.

Beckmen took first in the 1,600 (4:44.90) and 3,200 (11:19.06), and Bingham took first in the 110 hurdles (18.83) and 300 hurdles (48.89).

Other Mustangs event winners include: senior Joshua Tepoorten (200, 23.70), and juniors Patrick Tracey (100, 11.83), Conor Gilliam (800, 2:00.54), Joshua Durst (shot put, 35-0.5), Boston Ashe (high jump, 5-2), and Go Kamashita (triple jump, 38-1.5).

MVC also took first in the 4×100 relay (45.67) and 4×400 relay (3:38.12).

Girls track and field

North Salinas at MVC >> Freshman Norah Rondia took first in the 100 hurdles (17.98), 300 hurdles (53.32), and triple jump (27-10) to lead the Mustangs in their PCAL meet Wednesday.

MVC senior Nyree Delfin took first in the pole vault (8-0) and long jump (13-8.5), and freshman teammate Anna Conca took first in the 800 (3:16.44) and 1,600 (5:18.70).

The Mustangs won the 4×400 relay (4:23.86), and received wins from seniors Madison Bandy (200, 27.58) and Kylie Brunelli (3,200; 11:44.94), and sophomore Finley Castro (400, 1:04.71).
