Four Santa Rosa residents suspected of trafficking narcotics were arrested Wednesday following a monthslong investigation and searches that turned up nine guns, more than $25,000 cash and just over 12 ounces of suspected drugs, police said.

A Santa Rosa police narcotics detective began investigating the suspected cocaine trafficking group in mid-June and by Wednesday had obtained multiple search warrants for the four people and their homes and vehicles, Sgt. Patricia Seffens said in a Thursday news release. Between 6 and 9 a.m., officers and detectives pulled over the residents as they were driving in Santa Rosa and then conducted the searches.

Lemuel Hutchings, 34, was pulled over about 6:30 a.m. near Mendocino Avenue and Chanate Road. An officer found $1,335 in his possession and a later search of his residence on Bicentennial Way turned up $15,000 and multiple guns, including a pistol, two handguns, magazines and ammunition, Seffens said.

An officer found $200 on Duwann Walker, 43, after pulling him over about 7 a.m. on Corporate Center Parkway near Challenger Drive. Detectives searched his home on Fresno Avenue and found $9,826, 9 ounces of suspected cocaine and 3 ounces of a suspected cocaine variant located in a dresser in a child’s bedroom. Walker’s child was not present during the search and was later given to a relative for care.

Police also found common narcotics packaging materials, digital scales, magazines, ammunition and guns, including a loaded AK-47 rifle and a handgun with a silencer.

About 9 a.m., police tried to pull over two other vehicles related to the narcotics investigation on Piner Road near Willowside Road. One pulled over and the other fled — making a U-turn, driving at a high rate of speed until eventually stopping on Olivet Road.

The first driver, Lee Love, 36, had $180 in his possession, Seffens said. According to detectives, the second driver, Kayla Brown, 36, had a fake ID and two ghost guns, which are unregistered self-made firearms.

Police also recovered a loaded high-capacity drum magazine that they saw Brown throw into a nearby yard.

A search of Love and Brown’s shared residence on Pioneer Way turned up a stolen rifle, magazines and ammunition, according to Seffens.

Hutchings, Walker, Love and Brown — who each have a prior felony conviction — were booked into the Sonoma County jail on various charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and aiding or abetting a criminal street gang.

As of Thursday afternoon, none of them remain in the jail, according to online records.
