Resident of San Jose
Terry passed away on Friday June 6, 2025 just before midnight 70 years young. She was with her family, in her South San Jose, CA home, where she belonged. An undetected illness progressed during the last months of her life.
Born, Teresa Inez Piedra in Salinas on March 4, 1955 she is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Nanas Piedra and mother Julia Charlotte Ruiz and brother Tony Piedra Jr., sister Rebecca Piedra and paternal grandfather Apa and maternal grandmother Adela.
An Alisal resident, Terry attended Los Padres Elementary School El Sausal Junior High and then Alisal High School-1969, where she met the love of her life and future husband Joe Lopez. They married in 1972 and moved to San Jose with their infant child Anissa. Her son Joe, born in San Jose, was nursed back to life by Terry and spent countless hours teaching him to swallow. Ultimately this led to a happy quality of life for all the family.
The birth of her grandson Caden gave her and the family an immense joy. On March 17, 2025 Joe and Terry celebrated their 53rd anniversary proving their bond was strong and unbroken.
Terry loved to shop. As a young girl in Salinas, she would spend her hard-earned money on Salinas Main Street Shops or venture to Monterey and Los Angeles with her parents and siblings. In adult life she continued to shop till she couldn’t carry any more. From Los Angeles to New York, the Caribbean, to small shops across the United States and here at home, she had an eye for what she wanted. There was always a journey to be had, enjoying her husband’s retirement. Weekdays on the beaches of California or Las Vegas trips and beyond. As a lifelong member of the NLPOA SCC and current treasurer she supported the organization alongside her husband.
She helped raise scholarships for recipient’s attending 4-year universities from throughout the bay area and Salinas Valley.
Terry is survived by her husband, Joe Lopez, daughter Anissa Lopez, son Joe Lopez II and grandson Caden Turk all of San Jose. Her Sister Rosie Storment of Salinas and numerous nieces and nephews and family members throughout the Salinas Valley.
Visitation will be held 1:00pm to 8:00 pm Monday June 23, 2025 at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal Street, Salinas, CA 93901. Evening Service will be held 6:00 pm, Monday June 23, 2025, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal Street, Salinas, CA 93901. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Christ the King Church, 240 Calle Cebu Street, Salinas, CA 93901. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott Street, Salinas, CA 93901.
