Victor Olofsson posted his second two-goal game of the season, helping the Vegas Golden Knights to a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in a battle of top teams in the Western Conference on Sunday night.
Shea Theodore also scored and Jack Eichel added two assists, increasing his team-leading total to 33 for the Golden Knights. Ilya Samsonov stopped 20 shots.
Olofsson’s last had a two-goal game came in Vegas’ season-opening victory over Colorado. After missing 20 games this season with a lower-body injury, he has now scored in his last three games. His second goal Sunday put Vegas ahead 3-2 just 3:49 into the third period.
Vegas finished its three-game trip with a pair of wins, and has won five of its last six, scoring three or more goals in five straight games.
Kirill Kaprizov scored twice for Minnesota, one day after a two-goal effort in a win over Philadelphia. He is now tied with Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl for most goals in the NHL.
Kaprizov’s 22 goals are the most by a Wild player through 30 games in a season. He topped Marian Gaborik’s 20-goal mark in the 2006-07 season.
BLACKHAWKS 5, ISLANDERS 3: Connor Bedard scored with 54 seconds left, leading Chicago over New York.
Teuvo Teravainen had a goal and two assists for Chicago in the opener of a three-game homestand. Taylor Hall, Ilya Mikheyev and Connor Murphy also scored.
The Blackhawks had dropped seven of eight, including a 4-1 loss at New Jersey on Saturday.
MAPLE LEAFS 5, SABRES 3: John Tavares scored twice as part of a second-period outburst and added an empty-netter for his 14th career hat trick as Toronto battled back from a 3-1 deficit to pick up a victory over Buffalo.
Max Domi and Nicholas Robertson added a goal and an assist each for Toronto (19-10-2).
Dennis Hildeby made 24 saves in his third career NHL start after being recalled from the AHL with starter Anthony Stolarz out injured.
Buffalo (11-16-4) fell to 0-7-3 over their last 10 games.
HURRICANES 4, BLUE JACKETS 1: Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves in his first NHL appearance in nearly 22 months to help Carolina beat Columbus.
The 35-year-old Tokarski appeared in five games this season in the AHL before joining Carolina, his sixth NHL team.
Jordan Martinook had a goal and an assist, Sebastian Aho, William Carrier and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored and Jordan Staal had two assists.
The Hurricanes won for just the third time in eight games, while the Blue Jackets have lost four straight.
BLUES 3, RANGERS 2: Joel Hofer made 26 saves, Robert Thomas had a goal and an assist and St. Louis beat reeling New York.
Hofer won for the fourth straight start, and Pavel Buchnevich and Jordan Kyrou also scored as St. Louis handed New York its 10 loss in the past 13 games.
