The annual Independence Day fireworks show at Woodland High School came a day early, as it lit up the city skies on Thursday night, setting the stage for a day-long event on the actual Fourth of July, which started with the annual Woodland Fire Station No. 3 pancake breakfast.

Despite a massive explosion at a fireworks facility in Esparto on Tuesday, which left seven people missing, the fireworks for the city’s show were stored elsewhere, allowing plans to proceed.

Following the annual show, the festivities continue into Friday, with 1550 Springlake Court serving as the hub of activity for the annual pancake breakfast, held from 8 to 11 a.m. Proceeds from this year will benefit the Woodland Fire Volunteer Support Branch.

Later in the day, at Heritage Plaza, the annual Bike Parade and Party in the Park will take place, with decorations starting at 9 a.m. and the parade beginning at 10 a.m.

The party in the park took place at Freeman Park, starting at noon, and featured live music by New Harmony Jazz, bounce houses, and games, along with free now cones courtesy of Thompsons Heating and Air.

Later, at the Woodland Community Center, the Ice Cream Social from 1 to 3 p.m. offered attendees the chance to cool off and enjoy a treat. At the same time, from 1 to 4 p.m., the community was invited for a free swim at Charles Brooks Community Swim Center.
