A new burger joint has opened in Macomb County.

Halo Burger, a burger chain from northern Michigan, opened in a renovated Church’s Chicken building on Garfield Road between Canal and 18 Mile roads in Clinton Township.

Wwner Achille DiNello, who recently purchased the chain. He plans to expand into the Detroit area in the coming years.

In a recent Facebook post that was shared in a Clinton Township community group, Halo Burger asked, “Clinton Twp, are you ready?”

The menu includes a variety of distinctive charred cheeseburgers, including an olive burger and a black bean burger. Toppings include tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise.

Other offerings include chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, coney island hot dogs, fries, onion rings, and more.

On the beverage side, there’s soft drinks, ice tea, coffee, juices, milk, and bottled water. Diners can finish off their meals with milkshakes, Boston coolers with Vernors, chocolate chip cookies, and fried apple pie.

The Clinton Township location marks the sixth eatery in Michigan, in addition to four outlets in the Flint area and one in Birch Run. Halo Burger once had a presence in Oakland County, but has since closed those.

Considered one of the oldest cheeseburger chains in the United States, the eatery initially was known as Kewpee, Halo Burger began 1923, serving its hamburgers in downtown Flint out of a “boxcar”-style wagon.

Its logo is an image of a cow head with a halo.
