Sienna Mayer put together a strong season, capping her high school career at El Segundo.

It didn’t come as a surprise to her coach and father T.D. Mayer.

“I’m so proud of her,” he said. “She’s friendly, supportive, likable and a great teammate. She trains hard and get out what she puts in.”

For her final season, the North Texas-bound Mayer hit .522 with four home runs, 43 runs scored, 48 hits, with 21 being for extra bases.

Mayer had at least one hit in 27 of El Segundo’s 29 games and recorded a 17-game hitting streak. She also stole 20 bases in 21 attempts season.

Mayer played all four years on varsity for El Segundo, leading the team to the Bay League championship this season and into the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. She hit .413 in four years, with 135 hits, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs and 47 stolen bases.

Her work at shortstop was also key to El Segundo’s 23-6 season, which included games against nine league champions.

“We played nine or 10 one-run games and if you don’t make that one play, a four-out inning could become a 2-1 loss,” T.D. Mayer said.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR

Jacy Lindsay, El Segundo, Sr.: In a season of big games, the El Segundo softball team leaned on their big-game pitcher.

“Last year she did well, but we rode Maya (Anderson),” Mayer said. “Going into this season we said, we’re going to go as far as she can take us.

As a junior, Lindsay had a 5-1 record with a 2.14 ERA.

“She had a mindset of give me the ball,” Mayer said. “She sacrificed so much and did she what she did for the team.”

Lindsay, the Bay League MVP, recorded an 18-5 record with a 2.61 ERA in 134 innings with 120 strikeouts.

Against the top competition, she usually turned in a big performance. She defeated the likes of Los Alamitos, Mater Dei, Palos Verdes, Redondo, West, Torrance, Notre Dame, Cypress and Los Altos. In 73 innings against that schedule, she allowed just 14 earned runs.

One memorable outing came against Redondo.

“Going in, I knew it was to going to be a one- or two-run game,” Mayer said. “She went out and pitched a three-hit shutout.”

Lindsay also pitched the Eagles to the TNT Tournament championship, defeating West and Los Altos in the semifinals and finals, respectively.
