Celebration planned for news seed library

A plant exchange and seed giveaway is planned to celebrate the opening of a new seed library at the Novato library.

The event is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 5 at 1720 Novato Blvd.

Representatives of Marin Master Gardeners and the Marin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will be on hand to answer questions. Attendees are encouraged to bring seeds to donate.

City hires new deputy manager

John Stefanski has been hired as San Rafael’s new assistant city manager.

Stefanski will step into the role on July 31. The position has been vacant since the former deputy official, Cristine Alilovich, was promoted to city manager this year. Stefanski will be paid $202,188 annually.

Stefanski comes to the city with nearly a decade in local government, including a stint as assistant to the city manager of Dublin in Alameda County.

In his new role, Stefanski will oversee the city’s emergency management, library and recreation, sustainability and parking services.

He has a masters degree in public administration from Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in the same field from Miami University.

Terra Linda to host National Night Out

The Terra Linda Neighborhood Association will hold a National Night Out event Aug. 1.

The gathering is planned from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Terra Linda Community Center, 670 Del Ganado Road.

First responders and local elected officials will attend. Music and games are planned, and Silbermann’s ice cream will be served.

Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out aims to bring first responders and the community together to reduce crime.
