Oak Lawn lauded for school tech use

Oak Lawn Community High School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2017-2019.

The school launched a pilot iPad program in 2014 in which three carts of 30 iPads were shared between 18 classrooms. The following year, 600 students were using the technology in classrooms. In 2015-16, all Oak Lawn Community students were issued an iPad for use in their schoolwork.

School officials said the technology has provided students with endless opportunities for personalized learning, and they’ve fully embraced all that it provides.

The tablets have allowed students to virtually visit a garden in Japan, learn professional software design, and create iMovie projects as well as digital newspapers and newscasts.
