Charges have been filed in connection with Tuesday’s shooting in Pontiac that left one teen dead and another injured.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office said a 17-year-old Pontiac male is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felony firearm, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon for the July 8 incident. He’s designated as an adult but the case will be adjudicated in Family Court — which means he could be sentenced as an adult if convicted, but not necessarily.
Omarrel Sahon Ford, Jr., 18, was killed in the shooting, which happened near South Boulevard and Franklin Road. A 19-year-old was also shot but is expected to survive, officials said.
“My heart goes out to Omarrel Sahon Ford’s family as they grieve for his loss,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald stated in a news release. “The young man charged in the case allegedly chose to carry a gun and allegedly used it to take a life. Pontiac’s young people deserve a safe community where disagreements aren’t settled with violence.”
The alleged shooter is scheduled for a preliminary exam on July 24.Three others arrested in connection with the shooting — Pontiac males ages 13, 15 and 16 — were expected to be released from custody at Children’s Village pending further investigation, the prosecutor’s office said Friday morning.
