R&B star and former Minnesotan Lizzo took to Twitter to thank the Osseo Middle School students who asked the Minnesota Department of Transportation to name a snowplow Blizzo.

“Of all the awards I have received, this by far is the highest honor,” she says in the video. “To know that there is a snowplow named Blizzo that is clearing the streets of the Twin Cities right now makes my heart melt, or freeze.”

Blizzo was one of eight winners in the 2023 “Name a Snowplow” contest, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday. One newly named snowplow will be assigned to each of MnDOT’s eight districts, with Blizzo set to cover the Twin Cities.

Blizzo got about 15,000 votes, about 300 short of the top vote-getter “Yer a Blizzard Harry,” a reference to the first Harry Potter novel.

“I want to shout out Osseo Middle School,” Lizzo said. “Thank you so much for nominating moi as the recipient of this esteemed honor.”

Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit, Lizzo had already adopted her stage name when she spent the early half of the ’10s living in Minneapolis and trying to launch her career. After her 2016 breakthrough single “Good as Hell” went quadruple platinum, Lizzo moved to Los Angeles, where she has since established herself as an international star.

Lizzo has won four Grammy awards as well as an Emmy for her Amazon Prime reality TV series “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.” In October, she sold out St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center.

“Thank you so much for supporting me, no matter where I go in my career,” she said. “I love you Twin Cities. Stay freezing!”
