Resident of Alamo Richard “Dick” Whitehurst, 90, of Alamo, California, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024. Born in 1934 in Portland, Oregon, he grew up in Glendale, Ca, where he developed his good nature, integrity, and dedication that guided him throughout his remarkable life.
Richard proudly graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and later earned his Master’s degree in Business. A Veteran, he served after college as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his service, he built a prosperous business career as an investor and franchisee, constructing and managing numerous Burger King restaurants.
He was devotedly married to his college sweetheart Lorraine for 66 years. Together, they raised three children: Michael, Pamela (deceased), and Amy. Richard’s family was his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his beloved wife, children, daughter-in-law Roxanne, and four cherished granddaughters: Nicole, Carrin, Ashley, and Lindsey.
In his full and vibrant life, Richard loved fly-fishing, golfing, skiing, playing tennis, and traveling the world with Lorraine and their many dear friends. He was a lifelong fan of the Cal Bears and held season tickets to Cal football and basketball for many decades.
Richard’s life was a testament to hard work, devotion, and a heart full of love for family and friends. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, intelligent sense of humor, and fun-loving demeanor.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in his memory.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
