SAN RAMON >> Chevron revealed plans to slash 600 jobs in San Ramon, a downsizing that arrives on the heels of the oil company’s decision to move its headquarters to Texas.

“Chevron is taking action to simplify our organizational structure, execute faster and more effectively, and position the company for stronger long-term competitiveness,” Henry Perea, Chevron’s manager of state government affairs, wrote in an official WARN notice the company sent to the st

The first rounds of the cuts are slated to occur on June 1, Chevron told the state Employment Development Department.

“We will have fewer positions and unfortunately, fewer people,” Perea stated in the WARN notice.

The staff reductions will affect workers at Chevron’s office hub at 5001 Executive Parkway in San Ramon, the WARN notice stated. Chevron referred to the San Ramon office site as Chevron Lakeside. No jobs are being eliminated at the Chevron refinery in Richmond.

In 2024, Chevron earned $17.66 billion on revenue of $195.57 billion, according to Google Finance. In 2023, the company earned $21.37 billion on revenue of $194.8 billion.

More job cuts could occur, Chevron warned state government officials.

“We also expect further layoffs, but the scope and number for Chevron Lakeside have not yet been determined,” Chevron stated in the WARN notice.

In 2022, Chevron struck a deal to sell its campus near the interchange of Interstate 680 and Bollinger Canyon Road to Sunset Development for $174.5 million, according to documents on file with the Contra Costa County Recorder’s Office.

Sunset Development plans to build housing, shops and restaurants to create a new neighborhood that would replace the 92-acre site that eventually became known as Chevron Park.

Chevron became one of the first occupants of San Ramon’s Bishop Ranch business park in the early 1980s when it bought the Chevron Park site.
