Frank Nazar scored the only goal of the shootout, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat Montreal 4-3 on Monday night, spoiling Canadiens rookie Ivan Demidov’s NHL debut.

Nazar had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Bertuzzi and Lukas Reichel also scored in regulation as Chicago rallied from a 2-0 deficit on the road to take a 3-2 lead. Arvid Soderblom stopped 18 shots.

Demidov had a goal and an assist, and Juraj Slafkovsky and Alex Newhook also scored for the Canadiens, who lost their third straight with a chance to clinch a playoff spot. Sam Montembeault finished with 22 saves.

The Canadiens have 89 points — four more than Columbus with one game remaining Wednesday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Blue Jackets have two games left.

In the tiebreaker, officials initially ruled Nazar’s attempt a no-goal before overturning the call after Montreal’s next shooter made his attempt.

Red Wings 6, Stars 4: Moritz Seider had a tiebreaking, power-play goal early in the third, Lucas Raymond scored midway through the period and Vladimir Tarasenko added an empty-net goal to lift Detroit to a win over visiting Dallas.

Wyatt Johnston scored to pull the Stars within a goal with 7:04 left and shortly after they pulled goaltender Jake Oettinger to add an extra skater, Tarasenko scored to seal the win with 1:56 remaining.

Detroit’s Jonatan Berggren tied the game a few minutes before Seider’s go-ahead goal and Cam Talbot stopped 25 shots in the team’s final home game of the regular season.

Albert Johansson scored early in the game and Alex DeBrincat had a goal later in the first to put the Red Wings ahead.

Rangers 5, Panthers 3: Vincent Trocheck scored a short-handed goal early in the third period against his former team, and New York won at Florida.

Trocheck, playing in his 800th game, got the go-ahead goal during a Rangers comeback like none other this season. The Rangers were 0-30-1 in games where they trailed by two or more goals, the NHL’s only winless team this season in such a scenario.

But they got goals from Juuso Parssinen and J.T. Miller 1:38 apart late in the second to tie the game, erasing a 3-1 deficit. Matt Rempe and Jonny Brodzinski also scored for the Rangers.

Sam Reinhart scored twice and Carter Verhaeghe also had a goal for Florida, which got two assists from Aleksander Barkov.

Utah 7, Predators 3: Clayton Keller had two goals and two assists, and the Utah Hockey Club won at Nashville.

Logan Cooley had a goal and two assists, Michael Kesselring had a goal and an assist, and Nick Schmaltz, Nick Bjugstad and Kevin Stenlund also scored for Utah. Alexander Kerfoot had two assists and Matt Villalta finished with 27 saves to get his first career win in his second NHL start.

Oilers rule out Ekholm for series against Kings: Mattias Ekholm will not be available for the Edmonton Oilers’ first-round playoff series against the Kings, coach Kris Knoblauch said Monday.

Ekholm’s absence is a significant blow to the defending Western Conference champions’ blue line in their attempt to make another long playoff run this spring.

The talented and rugged top-pairing defenseman returned to action Friday in Edmonton’s 4-2 win over visiting San Jose after a seven-game absence because of an undisclosed injury. But he left the game when he aggravated the ailment after playing a couple of shifts.

Ekholm, a 34-year-old Swede, has nine goals and 24 assists in 65 games this season.

The Oilers are facing the Kings in the playoffs for a fourth consecutive year. They expect to get MVP candidate Leon Draisaitl back for the series after he has been dealing with a nagging injury, while reigning playoff MVP Connor McDavid is resting late in the regular season after also missing time.
